The Barwon Division Nursing in General Practice program is designed to assist and support Practice Nurses in upskilling and staying abreast of current & new information. This is achieved through the Division's coordination and funding of educational activities both within and outside the Division area. This results in maximum patient care, and nurse retention.

The Barwon Division manages a very successful immunisation program to assist GPs in ensuring that all children are up to date with their immunisation. Overdue reports are produced and distributed to GPs, from information received from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR). The Division also provides GP practices with annual cold chain audits to ensure all vaccines are kept under conditions that confirm with the Immunisation Handbook.

The EPC Program is aimed at providing GP support to assist with the roll out of EPC services to patients. The Division employs casual nurses to help GPs with care planning and health assessments. An excellent Division resource is available to GPs outlining all EPC item numbers under the Medical Benefits Schedule. The resource is available on this web site and from the Division office.
